Dartmoor Folklore with Ethan Pennell

Dartmoor Folklore with Ethan Pennell

Gather in the woods and listen to tales from the eldritch world of ghosts, pixies, The Devil, witches, wisht places, legends and strange phenomena.

Tales will be narrated in the dark and eerie confines of the Tulgey Woods Compound.

The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood, Beware the Jabberwock, my son
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!

Jabberwocky, Lewis Carroll 1832–1898

Ethan is a Devon-based artist and writer, whose practice draws upon environmental issues, folklore and the esoteric. He is particularly inspired and frequently haunted by the eldritch tales of Dartmoor, his local stomping ground.

The meeting point is the compound at Tulgey Woods, PL3 5DX, you'll see the Tulgey Woods gates at the end of the turning circle on Compton Vale adjacent to the entrance to Trefusis Park. We do ask visitors to avoid using petrol/diesel vehicles to travel to site wherever possible. We have a secure cycle compound (and electric charging point) for anyone arriving by bicycle.

The session includes a glass of mulled wine and light refreshments. Please let us know of any dietary requirements. You are also welcome to BYOB.

Please note that we have no toilets on site but you can access the woods to find a private space if needed! This session is funded by the National Lottery Awards for All.
